Vintage 1920’s Style Laird’s Sporran – Featuring Vintage Brass Cantle

1920’s Style Laird’s Sporran – Featuring Vintage Cantle – Featuring Antique Cantle.  We had a wonderful brass vintage 1920’s sporran cantle that we have used to design a sporran based on an original worn by and still used by one of the Highland Lairds today. This style of sporran cantle has been used by the original Atholl Highlanders regiment of the line in the 18th C. The officers of the Transvaal Scottish regiment and civilians alike. Kenneth MacSween, one of the Harris men in the Highlanders of Scotland portrait by Kenneth MacLeay has a similar cantle on a fur sporran.
In antique leather with six tassels. The sporran has been hand aged to start giving it that well loved patina, that will build with age.

Size Approx. 22cm x 17cm – Hand crafted in Scotland

We design bespoke sporrans for clients using new and vintage sporran cantles. Our range of fine quality Scottish goat hair sporrans are hand made in Scotland.

A Sporran is a pouch (Scottish Gaelic for ‘purse’). Now a decorative part of Highland dress, it was originally an everyday  practical item. Made of leather or fur, it usually has more or less elaborate silver or other ornamentation, especially on the clasp or hanger. It is worn on a chain or belt around the waist, allowing the sporran to lie below the waist of the person wearing a kilt. ‘ It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important’ – Sherlock Holmes
