Antique Circa 1905 Scottish Provincial Oban Robert Drummond & Son Silver Tea Spoons

Fine Edwardian antique Scottish provincial silver tea spoon set. With a twist to the handles and a thistle end. Robert Drummond & Sons operated from  5, Murray Place, Stirling ( circa 1860 ), and 3, Queen’s Park, Oban. Robert Drummond & Son of 5 Murray Place, Stirling registered a mark RD & S in a shield shape at Sheffield Assay Office in April 1904. This is the mark shown on the set of tea spoons along with the OBAN town mark. The original box is with this set but the box is damaged.

Set of six tea spoons – Approx 114mm x 23mm each

Very good condition, light surface marks consistent with genuine age only. Great collectors spoons

Antique Scottish Provincial – William Dunningham Aberdeen Silver & Horn Mounted Napkin Ring – Circa 1910-20 Silver mounted, amethyst stone set horn napkin – serviette ring by William Dunningham & Co of Aberdeen in fine antique condition. The front has the amethyst stone set in a silver band. The back has a hallmarked silver shield.

Hallmarked WD&CO Aberdeen – Size approx. 45mm x 30mm

William Dunningham & Co. was in business from the 1898 to the 1950’s and specialised in the manufacturer of horn pieces embellished with silver. Manufacturing jewellers & silversmiths, Diamond Street, Aberdeen. Hallmarked with their Aberdeen mark and Edinburgh hallmarks.

Including Agate jewellery, Scottish hallmarked sterling silver, vintage glengarry badges, plaid brooches, kilt pins and bracelets. With jewellery from classic Edinburgh and Glasgow makers like Robert Allison and Thomas Kerr Ebbutt and provincial Scottish silversmiths.

Rare large 1911 Scottish Sgian Dubh – MacKay & Chisholm Sterling Silver – Fine Scottish antique sgian dubh with deep carved basket weave black wood handle and engraved hallmarked silver mounts. The end of the hilt is mounted with a cairngorm type stone. Edinburgh 1911/12 sterling silver hallmark made by Mackay & Chisholm of Edinburgh. Fine tooling on the leather covered scabbard.

In good used antique condition.

This is based on the stories and theories surrounding the knife’s origin and the meaning of “Dubh” in Gaelic, in particular those associated with the Highland custom of depositing weapons at the entrance to a house prior to entering as a guest. Despite this practice, a small twin edged-dagger, (‘Mattucashlass’), concealed under the armpit, combined with a smaller knife, (‘Sgian dubh’).

Classic regimental Sgian Dubh in great used antique condition. Made in hallmarked sterling silver made by Meyer & Mortimer, London – Edinburgh hallmark. Wonderful yellow citrine style stone mounted on the carved black wood hilt mounted in silver. With a fine curved blade to fit comfortable against the leg.

The Gordon Highlanders was a line infantry regiment of the British Army that existed for 113 years, from 1881 until 1994 when it was amalgamated with the Queen’s Own Highlanders ( Seaforth Highlanders and Cameron Highlanders) to form the Highlanders (Seaforth Highlanders , Gordon Highlanders and Cameron Highlanders).

The regiment was created as part of the Childers Reforms in 1881, when the 42nd (Royal Highland) Regiment of Foot (The Black Watch) was amalgamated with the 73rd (Perthshire) Regiment of Foot to form two battalions of the newly named Black Watch (Royal Highlanders).
