Clan Murray is a Highland Scottish clan. The chief of the Clan Murray holds the title of Duke of Atholl. Their ancestors who established the family in Scotland in the 12th century were the Morays of Bothwell. In the 16th century descendants of the Morays of Bothwell, the Murrays of Tullibardine, secured the chiefship of the clan and were created Earls of Tullibardine in 1606. The first Earl of Tullibardine married the heiress to the Stewart earldom of Atholl and Atholl therefore became a Murray earldom in 1626. The Murray Earl of Atholl was created Marquess of Atholl in 1676 and in 1703 it became a dukedom. The marquess of Tullibardine title has continued as a subsidiary title, being bestowed on elder sons of the chief until they succeed him as Duke of Atholl.

Traditionally the Napiers are descended from the ancient Earls of Lennox who were one of the Celtic royal families of Scotland and Ireland. One theory holds that a “naperer” is “a person in charge of table linen in a royal or manor house” and that the original Napiers must have been “naperers” as an office for the royal household. However, there is not much evidence for this title being used in Scotland.

Including Agate jewellery, Scottish hallmarked sterling silver, vintage glengarry badges, plaid brooches, kilt pins and bracelets. With jewellery from classic Edinburgh and Glasgow makers like Robert Allison and Thomas Kerr Ebbutt and provincial Scottish silversmiths.

The Scots Guards (SG), part of the Guards Division, is one of the Foot Guards regiments of the British Army. Their origins lie in the personal bodyguard of King Charles I of England and Scotland. Its lineage can be traced back to 1642, although it was only placed on the English Establishment (thus becoming part of what is now the British Army) in 1686.

The Pipes and Drums Scots Guards are an essential part of Regimental life, with Pipe tunes marking events throughout the day as well as each company within Battalion.

The Pipes and Drums are divided into two sections; the Pipers under the Pipe Major and the Drummers under the Drum Major. Pipers and Drummers are infantry soldiers first and foremost who receive their musical training at the Army School of Bagpipe Music and Highland Drumming in Edinburgh.

The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise’s) was a line infantry regiment of the British Army that existed from 1881 until amalgamation into the Royal Regiment of Scotland in March 2006.

The regiment was created under the Childers Reforms in 1881, as the Princess Louise’s (Sutherland and Argyll Highlanders), by the amalgamation of the 91st (Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment of Foot and 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment of Foot, amended the following year to reverse the order of the “Argyll” and “Sutherland” sub-titles.

As part of the restructuring of the British Army’s infantry in 2006, the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders were amalgamated with the Royal Scots, the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, the Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess Margaret’s Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment), the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) and the Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons) into the seven battalion strong Royal Regiment of Scotland. Following a further round of defence cuts announced in July 2012 the 5th Battalion was reduced to a single public duties company called Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland, (Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders).

The Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs, The Duke of Albany’s) was a historic line infantry regiment of the British Army, mainly associated with large areas of the northern Highlands of Scotland. The regiment existed from 1881 to 1961, and saw service in World War I and World War II, along with many numerous smaller conflicts. In 1961 the regiment was amalgamated with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders to form the Queen’s Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons), which merged, in 1994, with the Gordon Highlanders to form the Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons).

Seaforth Highlanders regimental brass mounted sgian dubh

Hand made by the regimental silversmith, with solid brass Seaforth style St Andrew overlaying a hand carved star insignia on a black wood hilt. Top thistle mount is stone set with a real smoky quartz gem stone. This pattern is based on original 1900 Seaforth Highlanders sgian dubh.

The same pattern was used by 78th Highlanders Regiment of Foot in the 19th century and was then adopted by the newly formed Seaforth Highlanders in 1881. When the 72nd Highlanders of Canada was formed in 1910, they then became the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada regiment 1911. They also adopted the pattern from the Seaforth Highlanders of the Imperial service. In addition the 78th Highlanders of Canada also adopted the same pattern.
