How to shape your Scottish Balmoral hat – Jocking your bonnet

How to shape your Scottish Balmoral hat - Jocking your bonnet

The shaping of a balmoral is a very personal thing and much has been written about jocking your new hat. Some people like to look smart; others like to look like a game keeper or countryman.

Whatever your style we shape our balmorals in the same way.

You will need:

1. 1 x Balmoral

2. 1 x bowl of hot water

3. 1 x bowl of cold water

4. 1 x head

Step 1.

1. Ensure your balmoral is a correct fit. The hat band should sit approx 1 inch above the eye and should sit parallel around your head.

4. Then submerge into cold water. This hot and cold option can be repeated as many times as you wish and it will cause the hat to tighten as the felt tightens up.

5. Mould to head again; repeat steps 5 -5 for approx 3 more times.

6. Mould to head and keep it on for a minimum of 20 minutes, shaping and moulding as necessary.
